KeystoneBest (Federal Stafford Loan)
Loan in the student's name, must be a PA resident for KeystoneBest loans
No fee loan program
Subsidized or Unsubsidized loan
Subsidized - the government pays the interest on the loan while the student is in school, during grace periods, and during approved deferment periods
Unsubsidized - the student is responsible for interest that accrues on the loan
Principal payment is deferred until 6 months after graduation, withdrawal from school, or if the student drops below half-time status (6 credits). 10-year repayment term
Fixed interest rate for loans disbursed on or after July 1, 2006
KeystonePlus (Federal Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students)
Loan in the parent’s name
Can be used to cover difference not covered by other financial aid awards
10-year repayment term
Normally the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be on file to qualify
Fixed interest rate for loans disbursed on or after July 1, 2006
.25% interest rate reduction for automatic debit
Pre-approvals available by applying online or by calling the Student Loan Department
Non PA residents may still qualify for the Federal PLUS Loan, but not the KeystonePLUS program benefits
GraduatePLUS (Federal Loan for Graduate or Professional Students)
Loan in the student's name
Can be used to cover difference not covered by other aid
Must be credit worthy to qualify
Fixed interest rate
Must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to qualify
Utilize all Stafford Loan monies before applying for the GradPLUS program
Be enrolled at least half-time and working toward a degree or certificate
10-year repayment term
Payment may be deferred while enrolled at least half-time, by completing in school deferment request form
